Brussels Airport: no more Pokémon hunting beyond security

Belgian mobility minister François Bellot is banning the use of the Pokémon Go game beyond the security checks at Brussels Airport.

He has also voiced concerns about security at the airports of Charleroi, Liège, Antwerp, Ostend and Kortrijk.

In a letter to Niantic, the company that operates Pokémon Go, published in the daily Het Laatste Nieuws, the minister says that the Brussels Airport Company is worried about the generation of Pokémons in the zones beyond the security checks.

The minister asks Niantic no longer to create any more Pokémons, Pokéstops and Pokégyms in this area. He also voices concern about security at the airports of Charleroi, Liège, Antwerp, Ostend and Kortrijk.

Pokémon hunters are still welcome in the departure hall of Brussels Airport where it is apparently “good hunting”.

The airport has welcomed Mr Bellot’s demarche stressing that no incidents involving Pokémon hunters have yet been reported from the tarmac. Brussels Airport staff too have been briefed on the security risk involved in the playing of the game at work.
