A working session at the upcoming ACI Europe/World Annual General Assembly, Conference and Exhibition in Brussels in June, will focus on digital transformation and the airport brand proposition – where should the airport experience begin and end?

Today’s airports are no longer just a place where airplanes take off and land; instead airports are vital economic generators providing a gateway to their city, state, region, country.

Airports are as important for tourism as they are for business; the transport of people and goods not only between aircraft but with all other modes of transportation.

In an increasingly competitive environment, airports are focused on expanding and enhancing their appeal to increase their share of air travel and tourism, including innovation and a strong focus on enhancing the customer experience.

While safety and security always remain the top priority, airport leaders are also focused on ways to streamline the business and operations, including leveraging technology to meet and exceed goals and objectives. After all, in today’s digital world, there is no escaping the power of data so harnessing its benefits is key.

The Airport Digital Transformation: Best Practice, launched at the end of last year, has been well received by members and the industry alike. It intended as a decision and implementation aid for airport managers who are responsible for evolving their companies in a digital world.

This document helps airport corporate executives (CEOs, CIOs, CXOs) pick a starting point and develop a digital culture across the enterprise which will enable it to gain as many benefits as possible and as quickly as possible while the airport is developing a longer-term evolution strategy.

It provides a roadmap of becoming an airport digital.

To further help our Member airports on their path of digital transformation, ACI has developed the Digital Airport Survey. This survey will help airports assess their maturity in adopting digital transformation technology tools. Once completed, members can share results with ACI to receive specialized guidance on how to enhance this important evolution.

Download the report: http://www.aci.aero/Publications/Full-Publications-Listing/Airport-Digital-Transformation-Best-Practice

• According to recent estimates by the cross-industry Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), the total economic impact (direct, indirect, induced and tourism connected) of the global aviation industry reached $2.7 trillion, some 3.5% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2014. The air transport industry also supported a total of 62.7 million jobs – Aviation Benefits Report 2017

Quotes

– “Airports are natural interfaces between the analog and digital worlds,” said Dr Michael Kerkloh, CEO, Munich Airport and current president of ACI Europe.

“If airports succeed in the efficient digital marketing of their analog products and services, they will continue in the future to have a ‘home field advantage’ in the passenger business over other providers.

The Airport Digital Transformation Best Practice helps us to establish a shared vision and best practices in our industry.”

– “At Schiphol, we have always been an airport that dreams big,” said Jos Nijhuis, CEO of the Royal Schiphol Group.

“We want to be the world’s leading digital airport. With smart airport operational processes, secure Application Programming Interface (API) data sharing and flawless efficiency.

“By effectively utilizing digital contact moments, we will connect with and stay connected to travellers and be able to provide them even better service.

“The Airport Digital Transformation Best Practice is therefore very important to us.”

– “This document is a great reference product and should be in every executive’s reference library,” said Maurice Jenkins, director, information systems and telecommunications, Miami Dade County Aviation Department.

“It is key to transforming our system of airports and meeting the demands of the industry.”

– “This handbook is an excellent reference for any airport working towards digitalisation,” said Aymeric Dussart, director of technology and innovation, Aéroports de Montreal.

“We are delighted to have contributed insights, having learnt from various customer experience initiatives that we have invested in at Montréal-Trudeau.”

(RTTNews.com) – Vodafone (VOD.L, VOD) announced the commencement of trials of the world’s first air traffic control drone

tracking and safety technology which uses 4G Internet of Things (IoT) technology to protect aircraft from catastrophic accidents as well as prevent inadvertent or criminal drone incursions at sensitive locations. The Vodafone IoT drone tracking and safety technology trials support the objectives of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), with whom the company has collaborated.

Vodafone said the company’s Radio Positioning System (RPS) for drones uses a 4G modem and SIM embedded within each drone to enable real-time tracking (with up to 50 metre accuracy) by drone operators and authorised bodies such as air traffic control. The Vodafone RPS is combined with Artificial Intelligence algorithms – also developed by the company – to enable very large numbers of drones to be tracked and controlled remotely.

The company said, further trials, which will be coordinated with the relevant authorities, are now being scheduled in Spain and Germany through 2018 with the intention of making the Vodafone drone tracking and safety technology available for commercial use from 2019.

The company said the technology behind RPS will also be utilised to boost the functionality of other IoT devices in future – from luggage tags to bicycles.

Airports around the world were actively engaged in trials of advanced technologies in 2017, and we expect that many of those projects will expand in 2018. The main airport […]

Airports around the world were actively engaged in trials of advanced technologies in 2017,

and we expect that many of those projects will expand in 2018. The main airport technology priority will be making the terminal experience less jarring and more pleasurable for passengers. Not only will this help eliminate wasted time in queues, it could also help airports and their concessionaires earn more income as relaxed passengers take time to shop and dine before they fly.

Here are some of the key technology priorities airports should have on the list for 2018:

#1 Focus on cybersecurity

Cyber threats are a concern for all of aviation, so just as we recommend airlines look to improve their defenses, airports should too. Ongoing collaboration between governments and other industry stakeholders which will help develop resources but the threat is continuous and requires a careful review of IT defence infrastructure as well as raising staff awareness of good IT safety practices.

#2 Track Blockchain developments

SITA’s research on blockchain technology, conducted in collaboration with British Airways, Heathrow, Geneva Airport and Miami International Airport revealed some benefits of using blockchain as the source of “ultimate truth” on flight data, but SITA also cautioned that there are security risks and deployment complexities to address. With the potential to contribute to smoother operations and passenger ID verification, blockchain a technology to learn more about this year, through perhaps it won’t be ready for deployment in aviation for another year or two.

#3 More Self-Service and automation

According to IATA’s Global Passenger Survey, what travelers want most is less hassle at the terminal. Self-service options are popular with passengers.

74% of passengers surveyed used electronic boarding passes.

49% of passengers surveyed prefer self-service bag drops.

31% of passengers surveyed favored electronic bag tags.

58% of passengers surveyed used automated immigration gates in 2017

72% of passengers surveyed preferred self-boarding

33% of passengers surveyed would rather board using biometric identity

Biometrics will play an important role in tomorrow’s journey, just as they will in every-day life.

Airports should focus on adding more self-service way-points like bag-drop facilities and automated gates to address this self-service preference and also be mindful of capacity requirements. The maximum time passengers find acceptable for waiting to use bag-drop facilities is three minutes, according to IATA. The maximum time passengers find acceptable for standing in a queue at immigration is 10 minutes.

Airports will also want to look at better screening equipment at security gates that could reduce the inconvenience to passengers of removing liquids and electronics from bags, as well as their shoes belts and jackets. This will need to be carefully coordinated with regulators and government agencies as well as airline partners.

#4 Watch NEXTT

IATA and ACI are collaborating on a NEXTT initiative for the airport of the future. While the full vision will take a decade or two to be realized, IATA and ACI expect some of the NEXTT concepts to be part of the travel experience by 2020. These should inform technology decisions made in 2018. The idea is to plan for a future of greater automation and alternative transport with more functions of the journey being moved off-airport. It will require a review of passenger and cargo handling practices, as well as the regulations which govern airline/airport operations. Airports should keep an eye on the progress of this program.

#5 Baggage tracking

IATA Resolution 753 goes into effect in 2018. Both airlines and airports have been getting ready with baggage scanners, RFID tags, and data conformity. Istanbul’s new airport adopted SITA’s baggage tracking technology to ensure that it will track 100% of bags processed through the terminal from the moment it opens. While the baseline requirement for Resolution 753 is that airlines are able to accurately share the chain of custody of bags with each other, passengers want better information on the handling of their bags. According to IATA’s GPS, 50% of passengers surveyed wanted to track their bags throughout the journey. Airports should work with airlines to ensure that their baggage handling infrastructure can support “live” tracking.

#6 Focus on the customer

Airports serve two customers—airlines and their passengers—but prioritizing passenger relationships can pay off. It can help improve revenue and also help airports tackle service disruptions.

Better customer relationship management will help airports decide what amenities will appeal most in local markets and what travel pain-points should be addressed first.

While airports don’t all have the capabilities to actively engage with customers on social media as airlines do, having a voice to reach the customer in times of disruption should be a priority. Some airports proved that they have the hang of social engagement at the end of 2017 with the #AirportTwitter thread launched by Vancouver Airport discussing de-icing and grew to include over 50 airports taking part in a conversation about winter operations which included a big dose of humor. The popularity of this thread shows that social media-savvy travelers want to see more personality in their airport brands. This should be encouraged.

Social media updates became critical for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport during its massive power outage in December 2017. Engagement has to be cultivated over time to be of value, but it can pay off. If a small company like MoonPie can do it brilliantly with limited staff, then airports can too.

First there was ‘virtual reality’, then we were introduced to ‘augmented reality’ and now we could potentially have ‘mixed reality’ at airports, if new HoloLens technology currently being trialled by SITA comes to the market.

Initial trials of the HoloLens at Helsinki Airport apparently went well and, according to SITA, a new world is beginning to emerge where operators can use the technology to analyse and manage airport operations in a mixed reality environment.

Explaining the new technology, Jim Peters, SITA’s chief technology officer and head of SITA Lab, enthused: “Mixed Reality hits a sweet spot of having an experience that is fully immersive for the user, but unlike virtual reality also keeps that person in the real world.

“The user can interact with both and avoids the disorientation or discomfort of fully immersive virtual reality. There are benefits to having multiple people using the headset and simultaneously interacting with the same virtual display. This could be a really useful for scenario planning exercises.”

In effect, HoloLens is the world’s first self-contained holographic computer that enables users to engage with digital content and interact with holograms in the world around them.

It runs Windows 10, and enables the blending of the physical and digital worlds in ways that were previously impossible.

SITA worked with Helsinki Airport to use HoloLens to reproduce the Airport Operational Control Centre (AOCC) in this mixed reality environment.

For this project SITA Lab used a feed from SITA’s Day of Operations technology, which is used by Helsinki Airport, and presented a new way to visualise and interact with the airport’s operational data including aircraft movements, passenger flows and retail analytics.

Wearing the HoloLens, users had a set of screens meshed into a 3D view of the airport allowing them to correlate events from the data dashboards with an immersive real-time model of the airport.

SITA believes that this new way of looking at the world can provide new insights into how the airport is functioning.

And HoloLens also opens the possibility of being able to access the AOCC environment from any location, on or offsite, allowing experts to provide input to situations remotely.

Peters added: “Mixed reality, which combines augmented and virtual reality, is more than a new interface, it is a new way of looking at the world and allows things to be done in a new way.

“It enables digital and physical data to exist together. Our early research shows that there are potential uses for airlines and airports for operations, maintenance and training.

“We need to learn how to interact in this new environment. In the same way that we moved from computers to smartphones and voice recognition, now we can go beyond the screen.”

Greg Jones, Microsoft’s managing director of Worldwide hospitality and travel, said: “HoloLens is now being used across various enterprises from healthcare to engineering. SITA’s work is an example of how to extend HoloLens capabilities to manage the complexity of data and decision-making in an airport environment.

“It shows how this new technology can be harnessed for the air transport industry and add value in areas from training to complex operational management.”

The SITA Lab project interfaced into multiple data sources at Helsinki Airport to create the unique view of the ever-changing operations throughout the day. This included passenger real-time location and historic density data; aircraft position data; gate information; flight status information; security wait times and retail dwell times, segmented by passenger.

SITA Lab’s early research results show that unlike virtual reality, the mixed reality experience tends not to make people feel disorientated or nauseous. The HoloLens device itself has proven easy to learn and has a good battery life and doesn’t suffer from over-heating issues.

While the technology shows potential, SITA Lab points out it is early days and before enterprise use at airports issues of weight, size and durability will need to be addressed. Users must also learn how to interact in this new environment to maximise its benefits.

HOUSTON – Certain international travelers leaving George Bush Intercontinental Airport are going through an extra security check before boarding their plane.

IAH is now one of seven airports in the country using facial-recognition cameras to check passengers who are leaving the country.

The new technology is part of a growing pilot project run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP.

The pilot program began in June 2016 at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. In 2004, Congress tasked CBP with taking biometric information from travelers leaving and entering the country.

“In 2004, we began taking fingerprints and as technology has evolved, we’ve evolved with it,” said Alicia Tellez, chief CBP officer.

“This is an extra layer of information and this system does work with all our other databases,” Tellez said.

That means the extra check is also looking for those who may be wanted and are trying to sneak out of the country.

Since this is a pilot program, the United Airlines flight from Houston to Tokyo is the only one using the camera for now.

Customs has deployed this technology at other airports and plans to expand this type of check for those leaving the United States.

The 17th edition of the Airport Show, currently underway at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) with over 300 exhibitors from 50 countries, has a wide line-up of latest smart and innovative technologies and solutions set to transform the rapidly growing aviation industry.

Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) introduced the world’s first virtual reality applications, while Nuctech displayed the world’s first 3D scanner for airports.

Among the other prominent latest technology solutions being showcased are a contactless energy and data distribution, termed as the smart future of airfield lighting by Induperm A/S, airport-oriented ICT solutions including aviation cloud, visualized airport operation solution and panoramic video surveillance solution by Huawei; intelligent baggage handling by emaratech that reduces manual handling by 99 per cent; Stor-H, an ergonomical and ecological energy storage technology; and smart baggage handling system by Siemens.

Airport Show 2017 is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airlines and Group.

The exhibitors said Airport Show is an ideal platform to showcase their products and services, strengthen their business presence as well as forge new business relationships.

Mohammed Al-Raisi, Technology Innovation Specialist, Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC), explained: “For the first ever time, we have recently launched four applications, two for Muscat International Airport and two for Salalah Airport. The virtual walkthrough takes you inside the airport and shows you the passenger experience from the drop off area to the gate. As a user walks through the airport, he gets facts and figures about the airport and also a voice over narration describing what they look at. We are the first airport in the world to launch this kind of technology.”

He said the apps will service travelers, B2B vendors and also airlines can also see the capabilities of Muscat International and Salalah Airports in terms of providing services. “We are working on our new airport trials, where we are using virtual walkthroughs to guide candidates of trials throughout the new airport,” he added.

Nuctech Company Limited introduced the world’s first 3D scanner for the airports at the Airport Show. The scanner works through two different systems for 3D scanning.

Anwar Zhang, marketing manager of the company for West Asia region, said the new product called ‘X-ray CT Inspection System’ does not compromise on the speed of belt despite its ability to do 3D scanning. “The company is 21 years old and specialising in cargo and passenger scanning. Nowadays airports look for a single solution for scanning our product is one stop solution. The new scanner can do both 2D and 3D scanning very quickly such as in 0.3 metre per second.”

Induperm A/S has introduced a new concept in lighting technology at the Airport Show, which, it said is the smart future of airfield lighting. The company’s top executive claimed that the new solution would provide up to 40 per cent savings on power and maintenance.

The solution, ‘Contactless Energy & Data Distribution’, eliminates around 60 per cent to 80 per cent of airfield lighting infrastructure such as cable and duct, said Malek Hussami, Regional Sales Manager for Middle East, Induperm A/S.

Hessami said there would be no need for traditional cables as its massive and expensive. The product will get regulatory approval in the first quarter of next year, he informed.

Huawei is highlighting its full suite of airport-oriented ICT capabilities for the first time under the theme “Leading New ICT, The Road to Digital Aviation” at the Airport Show.

Developed together with industry-leading partners such as T-Systems, SAP, TravelSky – Civil Aviation Cares of Qingdao, YITU, Terra Vision, HYDATA, and SenseTime, Huawei is displaying a series of airport-oriented ICT solutions such as visualized airport operation solution, panoramic video surveillance solution and aviation cloud, which, combined, can enhance passenger experience, enable smart operations and intelligent security protection, as well as improve the ICT infrastructure to power aviation cloud platforms.

To support airports in their efforts to offer a better passenger experience, Huawei and T-Systems jointly developed the Cloud Flight Information Display System and the indoor positioning Dynamic Milestone system for smart travel.

Vanderlande Industries is showcasing an advanced automated passenger checkpoint, Scannojet Automated Passenger Checkpoints (APC), for screening of passengers and their hand baggage in airports or other secured areas, to facilitate effective handling of rising passenger traffic alongwith ensuring security.

Nash Aqlan, senior service manager, said it increases security, improve passenger experience, increase throughput and also reduce cost. We are selling our solutions in the Middle East region. Security is the first priority for airport operators, but it is also important that the passenger’s experience is a pleasant one. Scannojet APC transforms the environment at security checkpoints, helping airports to meet these challenges.

Explaining the latest intelligent baggage handling system by emaratech, Martin Sattrup Christensen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BBHS Intelligent Baggage Handling, said: “We are showcasing the new system for baggage handling which reduces manual handling by 99 per cent. Airport Show is an ideal platform to explore the latest technologies and showcase our latest offerings.”

Come GEORGES-PICOT, President, TDA Lefebure, said: “The Airport Show is a strong platform, particularly to tap into numerous opportunities in the Middle East aviation sector. We are showcasing a unique Flex Pit to connect the aircraft to electricity. During our previous participations, we received tremendous business interest and we are confident of a strong interest this year too.”

Daniyal Qureshi, Group Exhibition Director, Reed Exhibitions Middle East, organisers of the Airport Show, said: “Passenger experience and operational efficiency is the key for airports in the world especially in the Middle East where growth in passenger numbers has surpassed global growth. This has generated high demand for technology solutions in ICT, security, passenger handling and other areas. We see a lot of this technology on display at the Airport Show to meet the growing demands of Middle East’s aviation industry.”

Star Alliance announced a strategy of harnessing digital technology to further enhance the travel experience of Alliance customers.

The Alliance’s Chief Executive Board, comprising the CEOs of all 28 member airlines, will hold its summer board meeting in Frankfurt on May 14th, during which the CEOs will be briefed on the progress of the Alliance’s current business plan and future strategy, according to the press statement from the Alliance.

The meeting falls exactly 20 years to the day when its founder members – Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, THAI and United – first stunned the aviation industry with the announcement that they would come together to form the world`s first global aviation alliance.

“Our founding fathers had a very forward thinking vision back in 1997,” said Jeffrey Goh, who took over as CEO of Star Alliance in January this year. “From that moment on Star Alliance was destined to drive innovation in the airline industry. We have done this successfully for the last 20 years, constantly striving to meet that original vision of a global network seamlessly integrated for international travel.”

The Alliance enters its third decade with a strong and comprehensive network serving over 1,300 destinations in 191 countries. Connectivity continues to expand by member carriers launching new routes and increasing frequencies, while network reach will grow through the addition of local and regional airlines through the Connecting Partner concept.

Against this background, the Alliance’s clear strategic focus has shifted from network expansion, to providing a seamless experience especially to the over 14 million annual customers who connect between member carriers on their journeys. Going forward, digital technologies will lie at the heart of this strategy.

“Access to instant information updates online from more or less anywhere has irrevocably changed the expectations of customers as they travel,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines and current chairman of the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board. “Passengers want to have control over their journey at their fingertips. That means having full access to a wealth of information, but also being able to personalise it to their own particular requirements. Providing such services to today’s ‘digital’ traveller on an alliance level is the central pillar of our new strategic focus.”

The IT hub infrastructure which the Alliance has put in place in recent years has allowed for the better integration of back-end services between the member airlines. With this now in place, we can start building and offering digital applications. The new IT hub infrastructure has already enabled the Alliance to, for example, improve the reliability of such processes as through-check in for multi-carrier itineraries or ensuring fast crediting of accrued frequent flyer miles into the correct customer account.

In another Alliance first, in the unlikely case of missing miles, members in any Star Alliance frequent flyer programme (FFP) can now claim these online, through their own FFP website, even when the miles were collected on another Star Alliance member carrier flight.

The baggage hub, the most recent IT hub project, went live at the end of 2016, and facilitates baggage message transfer between the member airlines, their ground handlers and the baggage handling systems at the airports. Today it processes on average five million baggage messages a day. This allows the airlines to better steer baggage operations and to keep customers informed on the status of their bag. Once implemented across the entire network, it will become easier to give customers proactive updates on their baggage delivery status.

Using the existing IT Hub, Star Alliance has now introduced a new functionality which allows front line employees to better assist customers in case of irregularities. Should their feeder flight be delayed, the connecting boarding pass information can now be access by the airline operating the feeder flight, thus enabling a faster and simpler rebooking process. Up to now, such transactions at times still required calling the other airline involved.

“Our strategy is to develop digital capabilities centrally, which can then be used by our member carriers to enhance their own products, so that they can offer extended care to their regular customers even when they are travelling elsewhere on the network”, said Jeffrey Goh. “Over the next few years we will be launching many such enhancements. Individually, these will offer an incremental improvement. Taken together, they will offer customers a completely new level of information and control of their journey.”

To support the implementation of the new strategy, Star Alliance has restructured its Frankfurt-based headquarters operation and reorganised the Alliance’s management team, which now is made up of:.

Janice Antonson, Vice President Commercial and Communications. With a strong background in airport senior management, her career spans leadership roles in five countries, most recently at privately owned Northern Queensland Airports Inc. in Australia.

Christian Draeger, Vice President Customer Experience. He had joined Star Alliance as Director Customer Experience, having previously worked for Swissport International, As Managing Director he was in charge of business units at various locations in the worldwide network. He brings with him over 25 years of aviation experience.

Dr. Martin Mueller, now Director Finance and Strategy joined Star Alliance in 2009 as Director Alliance Development, having previously worked for such companies as LSG Sky Chefs, Thomas Cook and Lufthansa eCommerce. Alska Scherer, now General Counsel & Director Human Resources, joined Star Alliance in 2005 as legal manager.

Mileage Millionaire Competition

As part of its customer interaction for its 20th Anniversary, Star Alliance will be running a global competition, inspired by the theme of “Connecting People and Cultures”, which will offer winners the chance to become a mileage millionaire. Each of the Alliance’s 21 FFPs is offering one million miles (or equivalent) to one competition winner.

Entrants are asked to upload a picture of themselves and to share a cultural experience they enjoyed at www.staralliance.com/mileagemillionaire. The cultural experiences will be shown on an interactive world map. The competition runs from May 14th to July 31st, 2017.

The Star Alliance FFPs are also providing some inspiration on what can be done with a million miles and are presenting some unique travel experiences at www.staralliance.com/mileagemillionaire.

In support of the 20th anniversary campaign, each of the 28 Star Alliance member carriers has come up with their own local cultural experience idea. The five founding carriers, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, THAI and United, have gone one step further by challenging National Geographic’s Travel Nomad, Robert Reid, to test their recommendations personally and report back to travellers on his experience.

A further 23 unique cultural experiences selected by our member carriers can also be found at www.staralliance.com/mileagemillionaire and range from tile painting in Portugal to home cooking in Shenzhen, China, to joining the locals in Bogota turn major roads in the city into cycle paths on Sundays.

The world-wide campaign will be supported by many local activities at many locations around the world. For example, customers visiting one of the six Star Alliance Branded Lounges on or around 14 May will receive special locally inspired gifts and enjoy special menu items celebrating the cultures and flavours of the world throughout the month of May. Many airline lounges in our larger hubs will also mark the occasion. There will also be pop-up events in several airports world-wide.

The sharing economy’s impact on the car and taxi sector hasn’t been as immense as it has been on the hotel industry, but there have certainly been ripple effects that have changed the way travellers do point to point ground transportation. Apps like Uber have made booking a ride directly into a billion-dollar business, and kick-started a revolution in how people book cabs. With technology as the common denominator, each of the traveller tribes highlighted in our research will approach cars and transfers at their destination differently.

The ease inherent in using taxi, transfer and car sharing apps will be especially appealing to Simplicity Searchers. Concierge desks and visitor advice centres can encourage Simplicity Searchers to take advantage of these services by helping them to access and download the apps which are relevant to the local market.

On the other hand, Cultural Purists will argue that sharing economy transportation services recycle income back into the local economy. Taxi and transfer apps are creating jobs while car-pooling and ride-sharing gives them the chance to meet locals or other likeminded travellers.

Social Capital Seekers are predisposed to use apps and their phone for booking a ride, so they are likely to be part of the sharing economy already. Meeting new people via car-sharing will bring new contacts into their social network.

Many of the established taxi and transfer app businesses have on-demand limousine services such as Cabify will appeal to the Reward Hunters. This product range will have great appeal within the city environment and will appeal to this tribe’s desire for luxury at every turn. Upmarket and boutique hoteliers could form partnerships with limousine providers to ensure that the Reward Hunter always has access to a luxury vehicle.

Quite often getting around a city is more fraught than getting a flight. Obligation Meeters need to know Shrithat taxi and transfer apps are part of transport options and that a ride is only a few taps away. This tribe will appreciate the ease of use of Blacklane and other similar services, and if there is a corporate relationship in place, expense claims will be easier as well.

Particularly popular with Ethical Travellers are car-pooling or ride-sharing apps, especially for longer journeys. The Ethical Traveller might balk at traditional car hire but sharing a long journey would be less of an environmental concern.
