New app to improve travel experience

India’s Bangalore Airport unveils new app to improve travel experience

India’s Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) and technology group ThoughtWorks have launched the new BLR Airport mobile app, in order to enhance passengers’ travel experience.

The app is designed to offer a mixture of digital technologies, travel services and personalised data.

Available on iOS and Android platforms, it will offer airport navigation capabilities powered by Google Maps.

“The ‘BLR Airport’ app is an example of how we are leveraging technology to make travel through the airport simple and easy.”

The app will also use beacon technology to provide context-specific operational and commercial notifications.

Bangalore International Airport managing director Sanjay Reddy said: “At BIAL our aim is to transform our customers’ airport experience.

“Every new digital introduction will combine innovation and emotion, because we strongly believe that digital is more than just technology. The ‘BLR Airport’ app is an example of how we are leveraging technology to make travel through the airport simple and easy.

“As we move forward our concerted efforts will be in introducing innovative and interactive digital solutions that will create value for our customers.”

The app will provide airport Wi-Fi access, real-time flight status updates, and airport retail and F&B offers to passengers, as well as allow them to give feedback.

In June, BIAL launched the Twitter hashtag #Flightstatus, which is an automated notification feature that enables passengers to view their flight’s status online.
